We are huge fans of the show Narcos so while we were in Medellin, we had to get a tour of where some of the most intense days in Colombia history took place...Pablo Escobars Prison, La Catedral, as well as the place he was killed. It was a surreal experience, but what made it even crazier was that our tour guide himself was involved in drug dealing in the past and had an inside look at what this life is like. When you think of ‘bad guys’, you tend to think of the most ruthless criminals. Ones that not only got into crime early, but continued on this path for their entire lives. Then, as they got older, they started dealing with more substantial illegal activities, be it smuggling, or trafficking, illegal substances. Then of course, you imagine that these folks met their end in the hands of the police, and you can bet that it was not a pretty sight. Well, if this is your checklist, then look no further than the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar. He was all this and more, and during his tenure as the top dog of the Medellin Cartel, he was worth an astonishing 25 billion dollars. Here’s the thing-- all that money had to go somewhere. After all, none of the banks wanted to touch all that dirty money. So Escobar hid it away in the walls of his estates, in the floorboards, even underground. And all those millions of millions of dollars are still being found today. Which brings us to today’s incredible story, as we hear from Nicolas Escobar, Pablo Escobar’s nephew, who found 18 million dollars in the walls of his home. A home that at one time, belonged to Pablo. It’s an incredible story, and it’s one that will surely make you think what could be stashed behind your OWN walls. Who knows? A flash flood is a rapid flooding of low-lying areas: washes, rivers, dry lakes and depressions. It may be caused by heavy rain associated with a severe thunderstorm, hurricane, tropical storm, or meltwater from ice or snow flowing over ice sheets or snowfields. Flash floods may also occur after the collapse of a natural ice or debris dam, or a human structure such as a man-made dam, as occurred before the Johnstown Flood of 1889. Flash floods are distinguished from regular floods by having a timescale of fewer than six hours between rainfall and the onset of flooding. The water that is temporarily available is sometimes used by certain plants for growth. However, plants that thrive in drier areas can be harmed by flooding, as the plants can become stressed by the large amount of water.
Flash floods can occur under several types of conditions. Flash flooding occurs when it rains rapidly on saturated soil or dry soil that has poor absorption ability. The runoff collects in gullies and streams and, as they join to form larger volumes, often form a fast flowing front of water and debris.
Flash floods most often occur in dry areas that have recently received precipitation, but they may be seen anywhere downstream from the source of the precipitation, even many miles from the source. In areas on or near volcanoes, flash floods have also occurred after eruptions, when glaciers have been melted by the intense heat. Flash floods are known to occur in the highest mountain ranges of the United States and are also common in the arid plains of the Southwestern United States. Flash flooding can also be caused by extensive rainfall released by hurricanes and other tropical storms, as well as the sudden thawing effect of ice dams. Human activities can also cause flash floods to occur. When dams fail, a large quantity of water can be released and destroy everything in its path.
